Description

Cambium ePMP Force 400C High-Capacity Wireless Radio

The Cambium ePMP Force 400C is a high-performance connectorized wireless radio designed for demanding point-to-point (PTP) fixed wireless and backhaul deployments. Built around 802.11ax technology with 2×2 MIMO/OFDM, the Force 400C provides high capacity, low latency and reliable wireless connectivity for service providers, businesses, campuses, remote sites and network infrastructure projects. Cambium specifies a maximum capacity of up to 1 Gbps and latency of less than 5 ms, making it suitable for bandwidth-intensive network applications.

Unlike an integrated-dish radio, the Force 400C is a connectorized solution with two RP-SMA RF interfaces, allowing installers to pair it with an appropriate external parabolic dish or horn antenna. This makes the unit particularly useful where longer-distance links, additional antenna gain or specialized antenna configurations are required.

High-Capacity Wireless Backhaul

The ePMP Force 400C is designed to deliver substantial wireless capacity over outdoor links. It supports 20 MHz, 40 MHz and 80 MHz channel widths, adaptive modulation up to 1024-QAM 5/6, and Cambium’s ePTP air interface. These technologies help maximize spectral efficiency and maintain strong performance when network conditions allow higher modulation rates.

With capacity of up to 1 Gbps, the Force 400C can be deployed as a high-speed alternative to wired connectivity where laying fibre is difficult, expensive or impractical. Typical applications include wireless backhaul for access points, enterprise connectivity, WISP infrastructure, CCTV backhaul and connecting geographically separated buildings.

Designed for Point-to-Point Deployments

The connectorized design makes the Cambium ePMP Force 400C especially suitable for point-to-point wireless links. When combined with suitable external antennas and properly engineered line-of-sight conditions, the radio can support PTP deployments of up to 32 km, according to Cambium’s current specifications. Actual link distance and throughput depend on antenna selection, frequency regulations, terrain, interference, channel width, weather and other RF conditions.

This flexibility allows network installers to design the radio system around the requirements of the installation rather than being limited to a permanently integrated antenna.

802.11ax and 2×2 MIMO Technology

The Force 400C uses 802.11ax-based 2×2 MIMO/OFDM technology to provide efficient wireless communication. Its adaptive modulation ranges from BPSK through to 1024-QAM 5/6, allowing the system to adjust performance according to link conditions.

It is important to distinguish this radio from Cambium access points specifically marketed around multi-user MIMO. The Force 400C is primarily a high-capacity connectorized PTP radio, making its 2×2 MIMO architecture and ePTP capabilities particularly relevant to dedicated wireless links.

Reliable Performance for Outdoor Networks

Outdoor wireless equipment must withstand changing environmental conditions, and the Force 400C is built accordingly. It has an IP67-rated enclosure for protection against dust and water ingress and is designed for outdoor installations. Cambium specifies an operating temperature range of approximately -30°C to 65°C and wind survival of up to 200 km/h.

The radio also incorporates 1 Joule of integrated surge suppression, helping provide additional protection for outdoor network installations. A suitable installation, grounding system and surge protection strategy should still be used according to local installation requirements.

Advanced Network Management with cnMaestro

Managing multiple wireless links becomes easier with Cambium’s cnMaestro network management platform. The Force 400C supports management through cnMaestro as well as standard network management technologies such as HTTPS, SNMPv2c and SSH. This enables administrators to configure, monitor and maintain compatible Cambium network equipment from a centralized management environment.

For network planning, Cambium also provides LINKPlanner, which can assist installers and network engineers in evaluating wireless link requirements before deployment.

Security for Professional Wireless Networks

Security is an important consideration for enterprise and service-provider wireless infrastructure. The Force 400C provides 128-bit AES over-the-air encryption, with Cambium also documenting additional security capabilities such as secure management interfaces, role-based authentication and standards-based device authentication including RADIUS support.

These features make the radio appropriate for professional deployments where wireless traffic needs to be protected and network administration must be controlled.

Flexible Interfaces and Power

The Cambium ePMP Force 400C includes a 100/1000BASE-T Ethernet interface, an SFP interface, and two RP-SMA RF connectors for external antennas. The SFP capability provides additional flexibility when integrating the radio into more advanced network infrastructure.

The unit consumes approximately 28 W and supports 802.3at or passive PoE with 44–59 V input, depending on the power arrangement used. Always verify the required PoE equipment and regional product configuration before installation.
