H2: Professional Audio Recording for Film and Television

The RODE NTG4 is designed to capture dialogue and important sound details while helping reduce unwanted off-axis audio. Its shotgun microphone design makes it useful for recording subjects from a distance, particularly when paired with suitable microphone positioning and a quality recording system.

For independent filmmakers, clear dialogue is essential to creating an engaging viewing experience. The NTG4 helps capture conversations, narration, and on-location performances with a natural sound that works well in professional video projects.

Television crews and documentary filmmakers can also benefit from its directional recording characteristics. Whether recording interviews, location footage, or presenter dialogue, the microphone provides a practical solution for productions where intelligible speech is a priority.

H2: Convenient Digital Controls for Flexible Recording

One of the practical advantages of the RODE NTG4 microphone is its digital switching system. The onboard controls allow users to select useful audio adjustments without relying entirely on external equipment.

H3: Switchable Treble Boost

The treble boost can help enhance the perceived clarity and presence of voices, depending on the speaker, microphone placement, and recording environment. This feature is particularly useful when dialogue needs additional definition in a mix.

H3: -10 dB Pad for Louder Sound Sources

The switchable -10 dB pad reduces the microphone’s output level, providing additional flexibility when recording loud sources or working with sensitive recording equipment. Correct gain staging is still important to prevent distortion elsewhere in the recording chain.

H3: 75 Hz Low-Cut Filter

Low-frequency noise can affect the quality of outdoor recordings and dialogue captured in challenging environments. The selectable 75 Hz low-cut filter helps reduce unwanted bass frequencies, such as certain types of rumble and handling noise, while preserving the essential characteristics of speech.

H2: Low-Noise Circuitry for Clean, Detailed Sound

Audio clarity is particularly important when recording dialogue that must remain understandable throughout a production. The RODE NTG4 incorporates low-noise circuitry designed to help capture subtle details without introducing excessive microphone self-noise.

Its high sensitivity supports the capture of quieter sounds, while its high maximum sound pressure level provides flexibility when recording louder sources. These characteristics make the microphone suitable for interviews, spoken presentations, documentary footage, and other professional audio applications.

For best results, pair the NTG4 with a quality microphone preamplifier or recorder and set the input gain appropriately. Good microphone placement and suitable acoustic conditions also play an important role in achieving clean recordings.

H2: Designed for Field and Studio Production

The RODE NTG4 features a lightweight metal housing that makes it convenient for production teams working across different locations. It can be used with compatible boom poles and microphone mounts, allowing operators to position the microphone close to the subject while keeping it outside the camera frame.

The supplied windscreen helps reduce wind interference during outdoor recording. For particularly windy conditions, an additional compatible wind protection system may be necessary.

In controlled studio environments, the NTG4 is useful for dialogue recording, voice work, interviews, and video production. Its versatility makes it a practical addition to the equipment collection of filmmakers, broadcasters, production studios, and independent content creators.

H2: Applications of the RODE NTG4 Microphone

The RODE NTG4 is suitable for a variety of professional and creative applications, including:

• Independent filmmaking: Capture dialogue for short films, feature films, and student productions.
• Television production: Record presenter speech, interviews, and production dialogue.
• Documentary filmmaking: Capture interviews and location audio with directional microphone placement.
• Corporate video production: Record training videos, promotional content, and business interviews.
