RØDE VideoMicro II – Ultra-Compact On-Camera Microphone

Product Description

The RØDE VideoMicro II is an ultra-compact, lightweight shotgun microphone designed for vloggers, mobile journalists, filmmakers, content creators, and video enthusiasts who want clear, high-quality audio for their recordings. Its portable design and simple operation make it an excellent choice for recording interviews, travel videos, YouTube content, social media videos, and other productions where good sound quality is essential.

Designed for use with compatible cameras and mobile recording setups, the RØDE VideoMicro II helps capture focused audio from the direction the microphone is pointing. It is a convenient upgrade from a built-in camera microphone, especially when recording dialogue, presentations, and on-location content.

The microphone features a 3.5mm TRS output connection for compatible cameras and recording devices. Its compact size makes it easy to carry in a camera bag and mount on a compatible camera without adding significant weight. This makes it particularly useful for run-and-gun filming, where creators need to move quickly between locations while keeping their equipment lightweight.

The RØDE VideoMicro II uses RØDE’s annular line tube technology to deliver directional sound capture in a compact form. Its integrated HELIX isolation mount helps reduce handling noise and vibrations, while the included windshields help minimise unwanted wind interference during outdoor recording. These features make it suitable for creators who want to improve their audio quality without assembling a complicated recording system.

Whether you are filming a product review, recording a street interview, capturing a travel experience, or producing content for your business, the RØDE VideoMicro II provides a practical and portable audio solution.

Clear Audio for Vlogging and Content Creation

High-quality audio is essential for engaging video content. Even when footage looks excellent, distracting background noise or unclear speech can affect the viewing experience. The RØDE VideoMicro II helps content creators capture more focused sound when recording with compatible equipment.

For vloggers, it is useful for travel videos, daily vlogs, tutorials, product demonstrations, and behind-the-scenes footage. Its lightweight design allows it to remain mounted on a compatible camera without making the setup unnecessarily bulky.

YouTube creators and social media professionals can also use the microphone to improve dialogue capture when producing reviews, educational videos, promotional content, and interviews. Its compact construction makes it easy to transport between home studios, offices, outdoor locations, and filming venues.

For the best results, position the microphone towards the subject and keep it as close to the sound source as practical. Although its directional design helps focus the recording, it cannot completely eliminate background noise in busy environments.

A Reliable Choice for Mobile Journalism

Mobile journalists often record in changing environments where equipment must be portable, quick to set up, and easy to operate. The RØDE VideoMicro II suits this style of production by offering a compact microphone that can be mounted directly on a compatible camera.

It can be used for interviews, news reports, field recordings, documentary footage, and short on-location reports. The integrated isolation mount helps reduce unwanted vibrations during camera movement, while the included wind protection is useful when recording outdoors.

Because the microphone does not require a battery, users can focus on their recording workflow without managing a separate microphone power supply. However, the connected camera or recording device must still have sufficient power.

Integrated HELIX Isolation Mount

Handling noise can affect recordings when vibrations travel from a camera body, tripod, or mounting accessory into a microphone. The RØDE VideoMicro II features an integrated HELIX isolation mount designed to reduce these unwanted mechanical vibrations.

This is particularly beneficial for handheld filming, walking shots, travel videos, and interviews recorded while moving between locations. By helping isolate the microphone from the mounting surface, the system supports cleaner audio capture during everyday video production.

The microphone can also be mounted on compatible camera accessories, provided the mounting arrangement is suitable for the equipment being used.

Wind Protection for Outdoor Recording

Recording outdoors introduces challenges such as wind, traffic, and other environmental sounds. The RØDE VideoMicro II includes wind protection accessories designed to help reduce wind noise reaching the microphone capsule.

The foam windshield is suitable for general recording conditions, while the supplied furry windshield offers additional protection in windier environments. Choosing the appropriate windshield can improve recording quality when filming at events, on the street, during travel, or in open spaces.

For particularly strong winds, additional precautions may still be necessary. Positioning the microphone carefully and avoiding direct exposure to strong air currents can help achieve better results.

Compatibility and Connectivity

The RØDE VideoMicro II features an analogue 3.5mm TRS output for compatible cameras and recording devices. Before purchasing, check whether your device has a suitable microphone input.

Some smartphones and newer recording devices use USB-C or Lightning connections instead of a conventional 3.5mm microphone input. These devices may require a compatible adapter or audio interface. Compatibility depends on the device, adapter, and recording application.

Its straightforward connection system makes the microphone a convenient choice for users who want to improve their audio without investing in a large external recording setup.
